This piece was created in 1998. Its dimensions are 10 inches by 5 inches. It is made out of tree bark, some dried grasses, a baby possum skeleton, moss and a glass dome for protection. I had been doing research in the field of anatomy and I noticed that many doctors in the 1800's had created anatomical displays that featured cadavers in curious poses placed into a serene environment. It seemed like an interesting concept to me. I had found this baby possum skeleton intact underneath some moss in a field. It looked so peaceful and tranquil. I brought it home and created a nice environment that looked similar to the one it came from. I have had many people praise me about this sculpture. They have said that they feel peaceful while viewing it, which is the feeling that I wanted to come across to the viewer. This Necrosculpture was featured in the Take It to the Bank art show and the Amuse Les Sens art show. A print of this Necrosculpture is available on the merchandise page. It is not for sale. It resides in my private art collection. Click on the thumbnails to see the bigger image. |
