The LAVA (Louisville
Assembly of Vanguard Art) House held the art show "Art for Evolution"
on Saturday, April 24 and Sunday, April 25 at their large gallery on Shelby
Parkway. The art show was meant to display what the artists considered
evolution, and how they show it artistically.
I had the Necrosculpture
"Hell Hound/ Evolution" on display at this event. Another artist
of merit that I care to mention is Abby Brimstone. She had an amazing
photographic installation at the show.
I didn't expect
to sell the Hell Hound sculpture at this show, and I didn't. I mainly
wanted to get some exposure brought to my artwork. I saw this show as
an opportunity for my art to be exposed to the community.
The art show
was featured in the local newspaper "The Courier Journal" in
their Friday, April 23 "Extra" edition. The article consisted
of a synopsis of what the concept of the show was and listed the names
of artist featured in the show.
Owen's Artist
Statement for the Evolution piece Hell Hound:
Within all people
there is a side that they show to the world, and a side that they don't.
This side is more animal in nature, carnal, and bestial. What I hope to
accomplish by displaying this sculpture is to expose the viewer another
side of themselves and to make them realize that they have that other
side, and embrace it. Through this realization, the viewer can grow and
evolve.
